Loving What Is – Byron Katie

This is a great book if you want to get off the merry-go-round of unnecessary suffering, anger or self-pity.

I read the revised edition of Katie’s 2002 bestseller.  In it she invites readers to consider a new perspective on suffering and explains all the ways we increase suffering by attaching to thoughts and creating judgments of how we think things “should be” in our lives, relationships and the world.  She walks readers through her 4-step process called “The Work” in order to learn to think through circumstances and stories in a way that brings clarity, compassion and inner peace.

Katie includes her “Judge-Your-Neighbor-Worksheet,”  as well as several transcripts from actual conversations with people as she went through “The Work” with them,  dissected their stories and judgments from the worksheet, and helped them gain a healthier perspective.  The universal nature of our struggles as humans is striking!

This is a great book if you want to get off the merry-go-round of unnecessary suffering, anger or self-pity.  If you commit to doing the work, you will reclaim your power to choose your thoughts, feelings and actions in (most!) challenging situations and find greater peace and contentment in the process.
