My name is Melanie Rietveld and I’m so glad you’re here!

I help women over 50 who have tried unsuccessfully to ‘get healthy’ holistically transform their relationship with food so they can lose weight, regain confidence and feel great!

I hate to say this, but living in the 21st century is both a blessing and a curse. As a 50+ woman in contemporary society, you are dealing with stressors and health hazards that our foremothers never even dreamed of. So many aspects of modern life are making you sick, overweight and maybe a little grumpy.

The Good News

It’s not your fault!

The first good news is, it’s not your fault! The endless supply of frankenfoods, stress from never-ending obligations and little time for relaxation and connection are among the culprits that cause unwanted weight gain and sap your joie de vivre!

You don’t have to live that way!

The next good news is that you don’t have to live that way! With a little understanding of how the modern American lifestyle is affecting you and a ‘one-step-at-a-time’ plan to take back your power, you can feel better than you have in years!

I became a health coach to learn how to solve my own health issues

These included autoimmune gastritis, menopausal weight gain, and an undeniable sweet tooth.  I knew that if I didn’t take action and change the path I was on, the eventual result would be even more misery.
In my quest for knowledge, I discovered that you have so much more power over your health and wellbeing than mainstream society says you do, and it starts with tiny mindset shifts. There are so many ways that simple daily choices can make a profound impact and help you feel amazing.
I also learned that food is the primary source of both health and disease. And, as Geneen Roth wrote in her excellent book, Women, Food and God, “Every single person has a schtick with food.” How right she was!
Every food you eat alters your hormone balance and turns on or off your genetic messengers. Food is literally that powerful. The trick is to learn how to harness this power to work for you rather than against you… in a gentle, sustainable way that feels good and makes you happy!
Listen, I love food! I love talking about it, reading about it, shopping for, preparing and eating it! (Well, full disclosure, there are still times I get sick of cooking and just want to eat pizza!) However, a dynamic shift occurred when I learned which foods to focus on and which to minimize. (And I do still sometimes eat pizza!) This shift made preparing meals exponentially easier, rather than more difficult, and I eat great food that my family loves too!
Okay, I also know you didn’t just fall off the tulip truck yesterday! You know instinctively that each aspect of your life affects everything else! You know that poor sleep affects your energy and mental clarity, and that you’re more likely to grab junky food when you feel anxious or stressed. I can help you create a holistic plan to feel calm, centered and in control so you can choose more and react less! Imagine how great that would feel!
You also know that transforming your relationship with food takes more than just knowledge. That’s where my specialized training has equipped me to help you identify and overcome the obstacles that will inevitably pop up on this challenging but beautiful and transformational journey. There is truly nothing to fear.
